Matthew Hunt

Born January 26, 1972 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Matthew Hunt is as proud of where he began as he is humbled by where his art has taken him. Although he has spent a lifetime drawing and studying, he only started painting in 1997, completing ten works for his first solo show in October of 1998. Since then, he has completed hundreds of commissioned portraits and original works which hang in public and private collections around the world. Hunt's body of work displays a rare sensitivity for both the medium and the subject, a reverence for the great masters and a uniqueness all his own. As a self-taught artist, he has always worked tirelessly to develop his gift and to expand what he naturally understands. His greatest inspiration comes from artists whose style is nothing like his, who see in a completely different way, but his motivation comes from within; from a desire to use his own voice and to be heard clearly in the conversation of today's painters.

Most people rarely stop and look, pause to observe and absorb, let alone try to understand and remember. I live in those pauses. I see in an attempt to capture, and I work in an attempt to release it.

Akrona Galleries is one of the few galleries in the region to have White's artwork.

Subconsciously, he spends his life people-watching - scribbling down sketches whatever the situation (often on napkins, even tablecloths) to record an idea for his next work. Following a string of record-breaking shows in the UK, Todd returned to the US to even greater acclaim, and has become one of the worlds most collectible and successful living artists.

Todd White

Born in 1969 in Texas, he came from humble roots. During his twenties he relocated to Hollywood and worked in the animation field, developing characters at some of the most renowned production studios in the country. During this period Todd started to forge his artistic style by experimenting with style and concept. He eventually arrived at the working method that now guides him through every piece. He always names his pieces first, visualizes faces and personalities, then develops each person's story. In fact, he doesn't paint at all until he can conceptually see that story in his head. And he always tells it as directly as possible - what isn't necessary to the story doesn't go on the canvas. He's a compulsive observer of detail, always studying and absorbing figures, faces and features.

Everyone’s hands are full of personality,”‘ says Todd, “They reflect the subject’s state of mind almost as much as facial expressions.

Natalya Romanovsky

Natalya Romanovsky grew up in Moldova, and even as a child she knew she would be an artist. Her growing talent was noticed by her teacher who instructed her mother, "give her brushes and paint and the child will know what to do." As an artist Romanovsky places a lot of emphasis on design. She sees beauty in the world and sets out to capture it through paintings that stress harmony between color and form. Through her art, she attempts to create these patterns, being careful not to tame the wilder energies of life. In art, she believes there should always have a little mystery in it. Within her paintings a mysterious and intriguing ambiance exists, reminiscent of something surrealistic leaving the viewer to find a simple meaning of life in each work.

You can find numerous different pieces by Romanovsky at Akrona Galleries

I’m addicted to painting and must do it every day.

Thomas Arvid

Thomas Arvid possesses an unerring ability to refine a moment. In doing so he captures our wonder and has become an art world phenomenon. Named one of the top "25 Artists You Should Know" by US Art magazine, Arvid receives critical acclaim for his ability to portray centuries old traditions in a startingly fresh style. His oversized still life compositions of wine and the rituals surrounding its consumption are often called "photo-realistic." Arvid's images astound viewers with their intricate details and his mastery of light, depth and reflection. In the span of ten short years, the artist has achieved spectacular success and no one has been more awed by the response than Arvid himself.

I paint because I enjoy the process and the surprise of creating something from nothing - just a vignette in my mind, a blank canvas and tubes of paint.

Akrona Galleries has been the only licensed dealer of Thomas Arvid regionally for years, and has seen great success with his pieces.
